Aromatherapy Blog – Flower Power

A couple of months ago I traveled down to London to attend an Aromatherapy course at Neal’s Yard Remedies School of Natural Health in Covent Garden. Since becoming an Independent Consultant last year, I have been learning more and more about the wonderful benefits of natural remedies and the benefits of aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy ərəʊməˈθɛrəpi/ nounthe use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils for healing and cosmetic purposes.

This week I have been going through my notes from my free aromatherapy training at Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic in Covent Garden 🙂 I thought I would quickly share a few things I learned with you…
We have heard the words “flower power” before, but what I have discovered is that there really is power in flowers!!! I was shocked to learn of the amazing benefits found in our natural surroundings!

So I am going to share with you 3 facts about Aromatherapy that you may not know!

Fact no. 1 – Aromatherapy is not a new idea!

The Egyptians regularly used aromatherapy as they discovered the benefits of using certain herbs/flowers for incense, massage ointments and bath oils. They found the benefits of using frankincense to embalm bodies which have amazing properties similar to Botox!!! Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic have taken frankincense oil to create amazing products with age-defying results – find out more here.

Fact no.2 – Aromatherapy was accidentally developed

In the 1900s, Aromatherapy was known about but wasn’t actually a word! The full benefits of essential oils were not discovered until a French chemist RENE-MAURICE GATTEFOSSE severely burnt his hand in a lab. To cool his hand he plunged it into the nearest liquid which just so happened to be a vat of lavender oil. He discovered the healing benefits of lavender oil, he wrote a book and created the work Aromatherapy! Well done sir!

Fact no. 3 – Your body will tell you what you need.

Since joining Neal’s Yard Remedies I have been making people smell lots of different kinds of smells! Some people like them, some people don’t, and actually your body will like the smells that give you benefits your body needs. We all know the benefits of smelling things before you consume them – especially milk!!! Our brains tell us whether it’s good for us or not! It’s the same thing with essential oils, we will “like” what we need!

That’s it for now, 🙂 I am really looking forward to sharing some more of what I am learning!

Much love,

Hannah xx
